Commissioned Pet Portraits

At Dog Art LA , I am committed to the idea of honoring your pet with a quality portrait while providing you with an excellent piece of art.

Sad but true, our four legged friends do not have the life span that we do—   Remembering them in their prime brings joy to your heart every time you look at these portraits and long after they are gone.

Whether you choose a more stylized or whimsical oil pastel or a serious oil painting — I can assure that you will derive great joy from these works of art.

Questions & tips on selecting the best Image:

Since I rarely get to meet your animal, choosing the right photo to capture the essence and personality of you pet is critical.

What kind of photo translates into a strong portrait image?
Facial close-ups with simple backgrounds usually make for the best portraits.

Can Eileen Zegar work from black & white images.
Yes, black & white photos can be used to create monochromatic portraits.
If other photos of the animal are included an approximation of color is possible.

Can I Purchase copies of other work on the Dog Art LA website?
Giclee prints are available on some of the existing work.

Does Eileen Zegar work with subjects other than dogs?
Yes, soon you will be seeing other animals

What about combining people with pets?
As you can see in the gallery, that is possible as well.

What about subject matters other than Animals?
Eileen has an extensive background working with landscapes. The “Land Meditations”   series will soon be coming soon.

Can I buy a gift certificate for a friend?
Yes, as long as they realize that it must be used before the expiration date on the certificate.

Framing
The pieces come unframed. For an additional fee I can frame them for you.

Suggestions for framing:
The works on paper are Holbein oil pastels on Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper. They have been masked out to create a hard edge on the outer perimeter. I recommend that you use an 8 ply mat and float the image so that you can see the signature and get some breathing room around the piece. The color of the mat should closely match the paper. Use a simple wood moulding for the frame. I also use “UV” plexiglass instead of glass. The work looks striking and the colors soar.
